Aimee Mann expands summer 'Smilers' trek

Singer/songwriter Aimee Mann has added new dates to her East Coast summer tour as she continues to support her most recent studio effort, last year's "@#%&! Smilers."

The next tour leg gets underway July 8 in Burlington, VT, and will hit 13 cities during the month, including three nights in New York City (6/13-15) and a July 17 appearance in Hyannis, MA, with singer Duncan Sheik. Details are included below.

Mann has been on the road since last June supporting "@#%&! Smilers," which debuted at No. 32 on The Billboard 200 and snagged the No. 2 spot on the Top Independent Albums chart.
Produced by Mann's bassist, Paul Bryan, "@#%&! Smilers" follows 2006's "One More Drifter in the Snow." The new set features guest appearances by singer/songwriter Sean Hayes and author Dave Eggers, who lends his whistling skills to the track "Little Tornado."
"We tried not to echo any previous albums," Mann said in a press statement. "For this one, we wanted to use a different palate, thus replacing electric guitars with distorted Wurlitzers, Clavinets, and analog synthesizers. We made the low end and rhythm section full and organic-sounding, with Jay Bellrose’s quirky approach to percussion and my acoustic guitar together.

"For this album, the acoustic guitar is present in a new way, one that melds with Jay's rhythm section and acts as an adjunct to the high-hat. On top of that we layered detailed interwoven keyboards and on select songs added a lush string section; on others a full horn section."
