Ani DiFranco leads 'Red Letter' tour into fall

For the second time this season, singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco has tacked an additional leg onto her in-progress trek behind last year's "Red Letter Year."

The North American road trip, which began in early March, continues Friday (6/12) at Manchester, TN's Bonnaroo Festival, followed by a slew of summer festivals through late July. Since last check, DiFranco has added 11 fall performances spread throughout the Midwest and along the East Coast through late November. One Canadian date, set for Sept. 19 in Winnipeg, is also on the schedule. Details are included below.

DiFranco, self-described as the "Little Folksinger," will be joined on the road by upright bassist Todd Sickafoose and drummer Allison Miller, both of of whom played on "Red Letter Year." Percussionist Mike Dillon, who also played on the album, is not appearing on the summer dates, but will join the group this fall, according to Righteous Babe records.

"Red Letter Year," which surfaced last September, marks the DiFranco's 20th studio effort on her own Righteous Babe label and the first release since relocating to New Orleans and becoming a mom.

DiFranco also unveiled a new live album in her Official Bootleg Series last month. The latest set captures her 19-track Sept. 2006 performance at Saratoga, CA's Mountain Winery and includes songs "Red Letter Year," "Coming Up" and "Studying Stones." The new bootleg record is available at DiFranco's website.

Editor's note: This story was edited on 6/11 to reflect the fact that Mike Dillon is not appearing on DiFranco's summer shows.
