Alt-rockers The Dandy Warhols will set out on a two-week trek late this summer behind their forthcoming album, "The Dandy Warhols Are Sound."
The Portland, OR-based group will kick off "The Backbone of America Tour" Sept. 1 in Indianapolis, visiting clubs and theaters in 10 cities. The outing, which will feature Spindrift as opening support at each of the all-ages gigs, closes with an appearance at Morrison, CO's Monolith Festival. Details are shown below.
On July 14, the alt-rock quartet will release "The Dandy Warhols Are Sound," a set of tracks originally recorded in 2001 and 2002. The songs, which were recorded at the band's own Odditorium Studios and mixed at New York's Electric Lady Studios, were turned down by Capitol--the group's label at the time--and instead remixed to create 2003's "Welcome to the Monkey House."
"We absolutely loved this record," Sean Gothman, the band's art director, said in a message posted at the group's website. "We had always intended to release this unheard gem on our own, but life and other records and tours and babies and crepes and red wine got in the way."
The July release follows last summer's "Earth to The Dandy Warhols," the group's eighth studio album and most recent set of new material. Frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor produced the effort, which featured guest appearances by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits and guitarist Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
