The decade-long career of Smashing Pumpkins will conclude with a pair of shows in Chicago, the city from which the band emerged in the early '90s.
The band--currently in the midst of a European tour--has scheduled a Nov. 29 show at Chicago's United Center arena, and will play its final show on Dec. 2 at Metro, a 1,100-capacity club where many early Smashing Pumpkins shows took place.
Tickets for both shows will be priced at $35 before taxes and fees, and are scheduled to go on sale on Saturday (10/21) at noon Central Time, according to promoter Jam Productions. Tickets will be sold at the United Center box office and through Ticketmaster, but will not be sold at the Metro box office. In May, head Pumpkin Billy Corgan said in an interview on Los Angeles radio station KROQ that Smashing Pumpkins will break up at the end of this year.
In an unusual move, Smashing Pumpkins released what is being billed as the band’s final album for free on the Internet in September. The album, dubbed "Machina II/The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music," is currently available on Napster and other MP3-trading websites.
