Ratdog dates set for September, October

With the band's So Many Roads festival now in the books, Bob Weir's Ratdog has lined up more than a dozen club dates for September and October.

The band, headed by the Grateful Dead guitarist, is also scheduled to co-headline a pair of year-ending shows--probably in the San Francisco Bay area--with Weir's former bandmate Phil Lesh.

Lesh had distanced himself from Weir and the Dead's Mickey Hart in 1999 because he disagreed with their handling of the digitizing of the Grateful Dead's catalog. The estrangement ended this summer, when Phil Lesh and Friends played several concert dates with Ratdog.

Ratdog, which had been a side project of Weir's even before the death of Jerry Garcia, released its first studio recording, "Evening Moods," last year. The band features bassist Rob Wasserman, drummer Jay Lanem, guitarist Mark Karan, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and horn player Kenny Brooks.

Though the Grateful Dead spin-off tour Further Festival didn't take to the road this year, Ratdog headed up a similarly themed tour dubbed So Many Roads. Rusted Root, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and Keller Williams shared the bill on the outing, which ended last week.
