Guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani backs his recently released album, "Is There Love In Space?," with a late-summer tour that will also feature Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy .
Satriani launches the run in Gilford, NH, on Aug. 13, and works his way West; the tour's finale is set for Sept. 10 in the Seattle area. All of the shows are set at outdoor venues.
"Is There Love In Space?," Satriani's ninth studio album, landed in stores on April 13. Samples of all 13 of the album's tracks are streaming at Satriani's website.
Backing Satriani on the set are his longtime bandmates Matt Bissonette (bass) and Jeff Campitelli (drums).
In February, Sony Music issued "G3 - Live in Denver," a DVD that captures Satriani, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen's October 2003 stop at the Fillmore Auditorium. The date was part of the trio's G3 tour, an annual outing that Satriani and Vai have participated in for several years now; the two team with Robert Fripp this summer for the outing's European leg.
Deep Purple released its latest album, "Bananas," last October.
Thin Lizzy--best known for '70s-era hit "The Boys Are Back in Town," featuring late singer Phil Lynott--haven't released a new studio album since 1983's "Thunder and Lightning"; Lynott died three years later. The group's current lineup features founding guitarist Scott Gorham along with guitarist/vocalist John Sykes, drummer Michael Lee and bassist Randy Gregg.
