David Bowie recovering after heart surgery

David Bowie , who recently canceled the remaining dates on his European tour citing "a trapped/pinched nerve in his shoulder," actually underwent heart surgery in Germany last month.

The 57-year-old rocker's publicist issued a statement on Thursday (7/8) explaining that Bowie sought treatment--reportedly for the pinched nerve--after performing on June 25 in Scheesel, Germany. While he was at the hospital, doctors discovered that Bowie "had an acutely blocked artery requiring emergency surgery (the procedure is known as an angioplasty)."

Bowie checked out of the hospital early this week, and is now recovering at home with his family.

"I'm so pissed off because the last 10 months of this tour have been so f---ing fantastic," Bowie said in a statement. "Can't wait to be fully recovered and get back to work again. I tell you what, though, I won't be writing a song about this one."

The statement added that Bowie hopes to resume working next month. It's unclear when he'll be able to perform again.
