Yanni's tour launch to spawn new TV special

New Age artist Yanni launches his latest round of tour dates in Las Vegas on Saturday (11/6) with a concert that will be recorded for his first live television special in seven years.

According to production company Veras Communications, the TV special will air in 2005. It will likely surface on PBS; Yanni has long been a fixture during that network's pledge drives.

Yanni is so far scheduled to be on the road for about five weeks, and more shows are in the works for 2005, according to his official website.

In 2003, the keyboardist/arranger's 60-plus date North American tour grossed $24.8 million, ranking at No. 24 on concert publication Pollstar's year-end list of top tours.

Yanni is a Greek native--and a naturalized U.S. citizen--who graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in psychology before embarking on his musical career.

Yanni's latest album, "Ethnicity," was issued in February 2003. The set debuted at No. 1 on the New Age charts.
