Lyrics Born travels the U.S. ahead of new album
Hip-hop artist Lyrics Born --who gained underground success in the late '90s for his work in the group Latyrx before issuing his debut solo album in 2003--has launched a club tour in advance of his forthcoming release, "Same !-#$ Different Day."
Lyrics Born (a.k.a. Tom Shimura) will be touring with Joyo Velarde--whose voice appears throughout the new album--and a four-piece funk band.
"Same !-#$ Different Day" is billed as a "loose remix" of Lyrics Born's first album, "Later That Day ...," featuring five new songs and eight remixed tracks "that are similar to the originals only in name," according to a press release.
The new set features production by Chief Xcel (Blackalicious), DJ Shadow and Dan the Automator (Gorillaz), and guest appearances by KRS-One, Lateef the Truth Speaker, Casual, E-40 and many others.
