Coldplay 's "X&Y" sold 737,000 copies during its first week in stores, enough to give the group its first No. 1 album in the U.S.
The British quartet's third release--which also topped several international charts--easily surpassed the debut of The Black Eyed Peas ' "Monkey Business," which moved 291,000 copies and holds down the No. 2 slot on this week's Billboard 200 album chart.
The White Stripes' "Get Behind Me Satan" enters the chart at No. 3, while Shakira's "Fijacion Oral, Volumen 1" bows at No. 4.
Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi," last week's No. 1 album, slips to No. 5.
Kanye West 's second album, "Late Registration," is now scheduled for release on Aug. 16, more than a month later than initially scheduled.
The video for the set's first single, "Diamonds from Sierra Leone," debuts Wednesday (6/15) on BET, and will air Monday (6/20) on MTV's TRL. Hype Williams directed the clip.
A two-CD Iron Maiden compilation dubbed "The Essential Iron Maiden" is due in stores July 12. According to a press release, the album features tracks from every Iron Maiden studio album.
Iron Maiden is co-headlining this year's Ozzfest tour with Black Sabbath.
