Voodoo Music fest seeks site for hurricane benefit
Organizers of the Voodoo Music Experience , a festival displaced from its longtime home at New Orleans' City Park due to the destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina, are hoping to relocate this year's event.
The show is expected to take place Oct. 29-30, at a city and venue to be announced, and will raise funds "for supporting those in need and to aid in the rebuilding and preservation of the culture and heritage of New Orleans, which has served as home to Voodoo for the past six years," according to a press release.
"We want to be a part of the rebuilding process of New Orleans and we are dedicated to preserving the unique musical identity of our great city," festival founder and producer Stephen Rehage said in a statement. "I am in awe of the generosity and kindness of so many people and cities who are reaching out to provide us a home for this year's festival, the artists who are offering to perform and our fans and sponsors who are providing their continued support and patience during this difficult time. We look forward to harnessing this energy into something truly great for this community that so many of us, our friends and family call home."
Details--including the festival's lineup--will be announced once they are confirmed, according to organizers, who hope to return the event to New Orleans in 2006.
