Six months after its latest album, "Mezmerize," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, System of a Down will offer up disc two of its "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" project.
Scheduled to hit stores Nov. 22, "Hypnotize" will be available as a regular audio CD, as well as in DualDisc format. Both versions feature the same track listing (shown below), as well as artwork by Vartan Malakian, father of SOAD guitarist/singer Daron Malakian. The packaging is "specially designed to physically join 'Mezmerize' and 'Hypnotize' together, forming one unified product with continuous artwork," according to a press release.
To further unify the two discs, the final track on "Hypnotize," titled "Soldier Side," completes "Soldier Side Intro," which is the opening track on "Mezmerize."
The DualDisc edition of "Hypnotize" will contain exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage shot during the making of both albums.
The "Hypnotize" title track will hit rock radio on Oct. 11, and bassist Shavo Odadjian will direct a video for the cut that is scheduled to shoot later this month, according to Columbia Records.
System of a Down--Malakian, Odadjian, singer Serj Tankian and drummer John Dolmayan--recorded some 30 tracks for "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" at producer Rick Rubin's Laurel Canyon, CA-based studio between May and December of last year.
Released in May of this year, "Mezmerize" sold about 453,000 copies during its first week in stores. SOAD is in the midst of a North American tour behind the set. The itinerary appears below.
