Joe Satriani starts framing 'Colossal' tour

Guitarist Joe Satriani has begun rolling out dates for a tour that will support his forthcoming album, "Super Colossal," and will feature support from fellow six-string virtuoso Eric Johnson.

The new disc, which is Satriani's 10th studio set, hits the street March 14, but fans can get a taste of the new material in a series of podcasts that Satriani has begun to distribute via his website.

The guitarist plans to issue a total of 13 podcasts, each of which will feature his commentary about a track on the new album and a sample of the cut. He posted the first episode at his site on Wednesday (2/15).

Shortly after "Super Colossal" surfaces, Satriani will climb aboard his tour bus for a series of North American theater dates that kick off April 1 in Denver. So far, a dozen April concerts are set, tickets for most of which will hit the box office before the end of February. Details are included in the itinerary below.

More shows are expected.

Johnson's most recent collection of new material is last June's "Bloom." The set features guest appearances from Grammy-winning vocalist Shawn Colvin and guitarist Adrian Legg.
