Guster finishes new album, plots tour

Alt-rockers Guster are putting the final touches on a new album that is due out this summer, but the group isn't waiting for the disc to hit stores before launching its next US tour.

Ever popular among college crowds, Guster will hit the road in late March to tackle an itinerary that stretches into early May and is predominately routed through college campuses. Details are included below.

The outing precedes the June 13 release of "Ganging Up on the Sun," Guster's fifth studio set, and first since 2003's "Keep It Together." The new disc features the cut "Manifest Destiny," which the band released last November exclusively via Apple's iTunes Music Store, and which can also be heard at Guster's MySpace.com webpage.

Meanwhile, other tracks from the set "will be seeping out to the public through digital singles, EP's, videos, and online jukeboxes over the next few months," according to a message that the group posted at its website earlier this month.

"The only thing left for us to do on the album is sequence the order of the songs, and we plan to drag that process out as long as possible," the message continues.

The group may not be joking; it originally planned to drop the new album sometime last year, then pushed the tentative release back until early 2006 before announcing the June 13 street date.
