Gangi
Singer/songwriter Matt Gangi and drummer Lyle Nesse take nearly every aspect of their music production upon themselves. The duo make up the indie outfit known as Gangi, creating a funky mix of folk and pop with the help of traditional instruments (African drums, saxophone) alongside unconventional ones, like samples from news reports.
Gangi's full-length debut, simply titled "A," was performed, recorded and produced entirely by Matt Gangi in his Brooklyn apartment, and was self-released last April to rave reviews.
Gangi and Nesse also contributed their take of "Fire In Cairo" to "Perfect as Cats," a Cure tribute album from LA indie label Manimal Vinyl, the proceeds from which benefit Invisible Children, an organization that works with children in the war-torn nation of Sudan.
Gangi spent part of 2008 on the road in support of "A" and will enjoy a Monday night residency at Los Angeles' Spaceland from May 4 through May 25.
